Pollution found at Donegal wildlife and beauty spot

An alarming incident of pollution has occurred at Inch Wildfowl Reserve, Ireland’s premier wetland site.

The paper was contacted by a concerned visitor to the area, which is designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) under the EU Birds Directive.

They said: “I was walking over the iron bridge at Inch Level when I noticed effluent in the water.

"It was clearly visible and looked to me as if someone had cleared out a tank or tractor trailer of muck. There was no smell coming from the material but I think whoever is responsible for the pollution should be charged with environmental damage.

“Everyone knows the international significance of Inch Wildfowl Reserve. It is the gathering place for birds from three continents.

“Pollution in the water could have a potentially catastrophic effect on their eco-system. This is an absolute disgrace!”
